The engagement reinforced a shared commitment to building capable, professional, responsive and ethical municipalities.

Kumba Iron Ore Conducts Site Assessment in Wrenchville for Proposed SLP 4 Road Upgrade Project and Visits Boreholes in Batlharos
Kumba Iron Ore has undertaken a site assessment visit in Wrenchville as part of its Social and Labour Plan (SLP 4) consultation process, aligned with the Municipality’s Integrated Development Plan (IDP) priorities. The assessment focused on a proposed infrastructure project to refurbish and upgrade internal roads in Wrenchville. The project aims to convert key gravel roads into paved surfaces to enhance accessibility, improve road safety, and support efficient service delivery within the community. The main streets identified for the proposed upgrade include: - Charles Betshanger Street - Buitenkant Street - Flamink Street - Vlei Street - Kanari Street This engagement forms part of Kumba Iron Ore’s ongoing project scoping and consultation process under its SLP 4 obligations, which require alignment with municipal development priorities and community needs in accordance with the Mineral and Petroleum Resources Development Act (MPRDA). During the visit, technical teams assessed the current condition of the identified roads, engaged on the scope of work, and considered preliminary engineering requirements for the project. Following the Wrenchville assessment, the delegation proceeded to Batlharos to inspect existing water boreholes. The visit aimed to evaluate the operational status of the infrastructure and identify challenges affecting water provision. It was noted that ongoing vandalism of infrastructure continues to hinder efforts to improve and sustain reliable water services in the area. Kumba Iron Ore will continue engaging with the Ga-Segonyana Local Municipality as further phases of the SLP 4 process are undertaken. Additional updates will be communicated as the project progresses and once the necessary approvals have been obtained from the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy.
